My story
“A poor situation led me to live on the streets. To begin with, my father was the most drunk person in the whole community. After he lost his land, my father was not able to pay my basic needs.
My mother paid my school fees from 1st grade until 5th grade. But my mother fell sick with high blood pressure and asthma. Therefore, she was not able to continue paying my school fees. So, I stayed home without schooling for five months. But I had a desire for schooling. I started to raise some cows for the neighbors in order to get money for school fees. After one week, I became sick due unfavorable conditions in the bush, like too much sun, rain, and hunger. So I had to stop rearing the cows.
My friends, convinced me to go to Kampala with them. Kampala was bad. We had to steal in order to get something to eat and drink. In the case of sleeping, we took drugs in order to not feel the cold. The big boys forced me to take drugs like marijuana. I used to eat from the dust bin. I cried because there was no food, shelter, or education.
When I joined L.E.A.D Uganda they took me to one of the best schools in Uganda. Now I am studying well. I am my first year of college, studying tourism, which is an important industry in Uganda.”
