My story

“I go to school at Budo Junior School, the top primary school in Uganda. I am in grade 6. I am a top student.

I was born in Rakai District in Kalungi Village, a small village without running water or electricity. I have two brothers, Joseph and Frank and two sisters, Sanyu and Rose. I am the youngest. My sister Sanyu told me my Father, Vincent, died of AIDS before I was born and my Mother, Teopista, and died when I was only 11-months-old. Sanyu told me that at ten years, she took care of me and Joseph. We lived in a muddy house in the village and depended on a garden our parents had left for food.

Stephen Shames came to our village in 2000. He returned in 2004. He took all of us to school and since then our life has never been the same. We joined L.E.A.D Uganda. We started living in Kampala. Since then I have never gone back to the village to live, only to visit.

I am so happy now. My future is bright. I want to be a teacher. I also want to go back to my village and help children that are affected by HIV/AIDS.

I want my light to shine.”
