My story

“I stay with my grandmother in one room she rents. I am the only child in my family. My parents got divorced. I was told by my mother that she couldn’t stand my father because he was a drunkard. He died of HIV / AIDS. My mother works at a hotel in town. Mom lets me stay with my grandmother because she comes back from work late.

When I joined school, my mother thought she could raise my school fees, but that wasn’t true, because her salary wasn’t enough for rent, food and my fees. I was sent home most times for not paying school fees and often I missed exams. But in spite of her struggles, she managed to push me on up to 6th Grade.

When I joined 7th grade, my Uncle Jimmy, who is being helped by L.E.A.D Uganda, and is now in college, introduced me to Stephen Shames. He inquired about my performance in school and leadership and found out that I was a good student. So L.E.A.D Uganda agreed to pay my school fees at Railway Primary School and promised to take me to a good high school when I successfully pass my National Primary Leaving Exams.

I am so happy that I am part of L.E.A.D Uganda.  After my studies, I want to be a professional baseball player or an engineer.”
