My story
“I grew up with my mother only. She told us that our father worked as a driver and died shortly after my birth from an uncertain illness. I have a brother Fahim and a sister Salua. I am the youngest. My mother has always struggled to keep us all in school. She has denied herself many things to keep us in school.
I attended Kitante Primary School, a top day school, through 7th grade. I love computers so much. I help other students when they have problems on the computer. Everyone loves me at school because I am hard working and helpful. I sat my final exams to join the secondary level. I received 8 aggregates, which is a 1st grade –an ‘A’, so I was admitted to Seeta High, a top high school.
My mother always worried about me because my secondary level fees would be too high for her, even with her job as housemother at L.E.A.D Uganda. When my mother got the job, I was so excited because she now had a source of income. I was also glad that we were staying with other young kids like me. I made friends from Rakai, Kampala, and northern Uganda.
I am also happy that Uncle Stephen Shames picked me to join L.E.A.D Uganda this year. I have been consistent with my grades. I have always been number one in class – number two comes by mistake. That’s why I think he picked me. I am glad I joined L.E.A.D Uganda because now my mother can keep my two siblings in school.
L.E.A.D Uganda gave us life, gave us love; taught us how to interact with others. L.E.A.D focuses on education, leadership, interaction, photography, economics, divinity, art, information technology, making good friends, making wise choices, music, writing, acting, etc. Really L.E.A.D Uganda is a gift from Heaven. And Uncle Steve, whoo!! He is everything to us.
Last year, the Uganda Broadcasting Corporation (UBC) selected me from among many students to be news anchor on their Kid’s Network’s, the Saturday news show. I was so excited, it’s always a wonderful feeling to be picked to present on TV. My friends tell me I am a celebrity, but I always tell them I am normal just like them. I would like to be President of Uganda so I can help all the orphaned children go to school.”
