My story
“Our father Justus died after being poisoned, while our mum Midi Florence died after a long illness. We were left under the care of our uncle Ziraba Titto. We were sent to a nearby government-funded school. We didn’t have school uniforms, and had to walk barefoot to school. Sometimes we went to school without eating breakfast.
However, I am grateful to God that he never forgot us. Aunt Monica visited our school and talked to the teachers. I saw them pointing at me, although I didn’t hear what they were saying. The teachers introduced a group of children to Aunt Monica, but she said she was interested in knowing more about me. They sent for the village Chairman, Mr. Nakoli Bernard, who escorted her and me back home.
She asked me many questions and I became scared — but then she promised that if all goes well I might be considered for a sponsorship in a good school. She promised to come and visit us again. In August this year, my brother Tito, 14, and I were picked to join L.E.A.D Uganda.
L.E.A.D brought us to Kampala. It was my first time outside my village. While in Kampala, we were taken for interviews at schools. I was happy to be accepted at St. John Bosco Katende. My brother goes there too. My favorite subjects are SST and Mathematics.
I want to be a banker in the future. If I can’t be a banker, I would like to be a mechanical engineer.
