My story
“I stay with my mother, Florence, who is living positively with HIV/AIDS. My father died of HIV/AIDS when I was five. Before I joined L.E.A.D Uganda I studied at Kirombe Primary School in Gulu District. My mother was paying part of my school fees with money she earned sowing people’s clothes. Mum could not afford the whole sum, but the school let me stay because I was a top student.
When Stephen Shames and Aunt Monica visited my school, my headmistress recommended me because I was an excellent student. She had seen my father die from AIDS and knew my Mum was also ailing. I joined L.E.A.D Uganda and was brought to Kampala. It was my first time. in a big city.
I am so happy that I am in L.E.A.D Uganda because I am now in a top school — St. John Bosco Katende. I love Mathematics and Social studies. I play football and participate in debating. I am working hard to remain at the top of my class. Even though there is a lot of competition, I know I will succeed.
Since I joined L.E.A.D, I feel my mum has been relieved a lot. She can now use the money she earns to receive full treatment for herself and take care of my two sisters. In the future, when I become an engineer, I will build my Mum a house and get her better treatment. I will also help children from families affected by HIV/AIDS go to school.”
