My story

“I am Rwandese by origin but a Ugandan by birth. During the Rwanda genocide, the Hutu’s attacked our village. The women and children, including my mother, who was pregnant with me, hid in the nearby bush, as the men and big boys ran to a different village. But the Hutus were stronger than our people and they killed most of them, taking others as captives. When the fight had stopped and the Hutus had gone, the village was covered by silence.

As the women and children came out of their hidouts, suddenly the village heard a loud voice of sorrow as my mother, brothers, sisters, and other people cried for their dear ones. My father’s body was not among the dead. All their searching was in vain. Nobody knows his wearabouts since then.

After the disappearance of my father, my mother, my 5 and 6-year-old brothers and my 4-year-old sister collected our clothes, which she sold in order to raise money. They moved on foot to Uganda in order to take refuge from the wars. After some months, my mother gave birth to me. When I was one, my big broither fell sick and died because my mother could not afford the required medical attention he needed.

One morning my mother took me to L.E.A.D Uganda, where I am now a student-member. I am very happy to be here. I want to be a lawyer because I know that through the law, crime is fought, justice and peace is provided, thereby avoiding war and conflict.
